February 2026

Knock-out and replacement of a 12-year-old plain concrete drive that had cracked at three points and lifted at the council crossover. Reactive clay site — we deepened the road base to 200mm and increased reinforcement to SL92. Finished with a custom aggregate blend matched to the brickwork.

Full pool-surround replacement coordinated with the pool builder on a tight three-week window. Commercial workshop slab

Finish
Steel-trowelled, sealed
Area
340 m²

Completed
August 2025

Ground-floor slab for a small mechanical workshop — N40 mix, SL102 mesh + bar reinforcement at thickened edges, coordinated with the structural engineer's shop drawings. Poured in a single day with three crews on the screed. Level within 4mm across the full slab — confirmed with a laser before sign-off.

HOW WE WORK

Five steps. No surprises.

From the first phone call to the last broom-down. Most jobs sit in this rhythm — anything different gets explained before we start, not after.

  1. 1

    Free Measure & Quote

Dan visits the site, measures the area, and walks through finish options with you. A written quote arrives within 24 hours — scope, materials, finish type, and timeline all confirmed in writing.

  2. 2

    Site Preparation

We excavate to the correct depth, remove any existing surface, compact the base with a plate compactor, and install formwork and reinforcement steel. The base is where cheap jobs cut corners — ours doesn't.

  3. 3

    Pour & Finish

Concrete is ordered to the correct mix spec, poured, and finished to your chosen style. Expansion cuts are made at correct intervals before the pour sets.

  4. 4

    Cure & Care

We protect the concrete during the initial cure period. Foot traffic within 24–48 hours. Vehicles after 7 days minimum. Full strength at 28 days. We explain all of this before we leave.

  5. 5

    Clean Site Handover

Formwork removed, site cleaned, excess spoil taken away. We walk you through care and maintenance. Job done.

DECIDE WITH CONFIDENCE

Concrete or pavers?

Both are solid choices for driveways, patios, and paths. The right one depends on your block's soil, your aesthetic preference, and how you want to handle repairs down the track. Here's an honest comparison.

Concrete

Upfront cost
Lower per m²
Design options
Moderate — finish-dependent
Installation time
1–2 days pour (+ cure time)
Repairs
Difficult — visible patches
Ground movement
Can crack on reactive soil
Lifespan
25–30 years, well maintained
Maintenance
Reseal every 5–7 years
Best for
Large areas, modern aesthetics, tighter budget

Pavers

Upfront cost
Higher per m²
Design options
High — material, colour, pattern
Installation time
2–5 days (ready to use same day)
Repairs
Easy — replace individual units
Ground movement
Flexes without cracking
Lifespan
40–50+ years, well maintained
Maintenance
Sand joints and reseal periodically
Best for
Design flexibility, reactive soil, easy long-term repairs

WHY PREMIUM COSTS WHAT IT DOES

Four things every quote should specify — and why ours always does.

  • Built to AS3600

Every pour follows the Australian Standard for concrete structures — N25 to N40 mix specs chosen by load and exposure, not defaulted. Reinforcement specified to the job, not inherited from the last one.

  • Boral & Hanson supply

We order from established Western Sydney plants — Boral for most jobs, Hanson where the schedule needs it. Mix is tested on arrival; if it doesn't match the docket, it doesn't get poured.

  • $20M public liability

Public liability cover to $20M plus full workers' compensation, current policy on request. We send the certificate of currency before any work starts on your site — not after.

  • 20-year workmanship warranty

Every Hardrock pour carries a 20-year written workmanship warranty. Material warranty (sealer, paver) tracks the manufacturer's — never bundled into a vague single number.

ANSWERS BEFORE YOU ASK

Common questions, properly answered.

The questions we get most often, with the answers we'd give you on a measure-up call. Tap to expand.

  • How much does a concrete driveway cost in Western Sydney?

A plain concrete driveway in Western Sydney typically costs between $65 and $95 per square metre. Exposed aggregate finishes run $100–$150 per m², and stencilled or stamped concrete sits at $100–$200 per m². For a standard double-car driveway of around 50–60m², expect a finished job in the $3,500–$9,000 range depending on finish and site conditions. Factors that push the price up include removal of an existing slab, a sloped site, limited access for a concrete truck, and the depth of base preparation required. A site visit is the only way to give you a number you can actually budget from.

  • How long does a concrete driveway take to complete?

A standard residential driveway takes 3 working days. Day 1 covers excavation and base preparation. Day 2 is the pour and finishing. Day 3 is expansion cuts, clean-up, and handover. You can walk on the concrete within 24–48 hours of the pour. Keep vehicles off for at least 7 days. Full strength is reached at 28 days.

  • Should I get concrete or pavers for my driveway?

It depends on your block and your priorities. Concrete is lower cost upfront and installs faster, but cracks are difficult to repair — and on reactive clay soils common in parts of Western Sydney, cracking over time is a real risk. Pavers cost more upfront but flex with ground movement without cracking, and individual units can be swapped out if damaged. For most Western Sydney homes, exposed aggregate concrete offers a good balance of cost, durability, and appearance.

  • What does the quote include — is removal of my old concrete extra?

Break-up, removal, and disposal of an existing concrete surface is a real cost that should be line-itemised in any honest quote. Depending on the size and thickness of the slab, this typically adds $500–$2,000 to a job. Every Hardrock quote specifies exactly what is and isn't included. If you're comparing quotes, make sure each one confirms whether existing surface removal is covered.

  • Do you do council crossover work?

Yes. Council crossover reinstatement — the section of concrete between your property boundary and the road kerb — is included in our work. We're familiar with Blacktown Council's requirements and handle this as part of the overall driveway scope.

  • How long before I can drive on my new concrete?

Keep vehicles off a new concrete slab for a minimum of 7 days. Standard passenger cars can typically go on after 7 days with care, but avoid tight turns during this period. The concrete reaches full structural strength at 28 days — after that, it's at full capacity for normal residential use.
